Our Lady’s Chapel.
"All generations will call me blessed." The Church's devotion to the Blessed Virgin is intrinsic to Christian Worship. The Church rightly honours 'the Blessed Virgin with special devotion. From the most ancient times the Blessed Virgin has been honoured with the title "Mother of God", to whos protection the faithful fly in all their dangers and needs ... This very special devotion ... differs essentially from the adoration which is given to the incarnate Word and equally to the Father and Holy Spirit, and greatly fosters this adoration.' Thie liturgical feasts dedicated to the Mother of God and Marian prayer, such as the rosary, an 'epitome of the whole Gospel', express this devotion to the Virgin Mary.
Catechism of the Cattholic Church 971.
The present Chapel devoted to Our Lady was created out of what was, in the original layout of the church, the baptistry - which is why there are two steps leading down into it. These symbolise the act of going down into the tomb with Christ and then the newly baptised emerging to new life with Him. When the font was moved to immediatly in front of the sanctuary the vacant area became the permanent home of and centre of veneration of Our Lady.
Salve Regina.
Hail Holy Queen, Mother of Mercy, our life, our sweetness and our hope! To thee do we cry, poor banished children of Eve. To thee do we send up pur sighs, mourning and weeping in this valley of tears! Turn, then O most gracious Advocate, thine eyes of mercy toward us, and after this, our exile, show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus. O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary.
Pray for us, O Holy Mother of God.
That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.
Let us pray. Almighty and everlasting God, by the cooperation of the Holy Spirit you prepared the body and soul of Mary, glorious Virgin and Mother, to become the worthy dwelling place of thy Son; grant that by her gracious intercession, in whose commemoration we rejoice, we may be delivered from precent evils and from everlasting death. Through the same Christ our Lord. Amen.
Memorare.
Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to thy protection, implored thy help, or sought thy intercession, was left unaided. Inspired by this confidence I fly to three, O Virgin of Virgins, my Mother. To thee do I come, before thee I stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in thy mercy hear and answer me. Amen.
Prayer to Our Lady, Help of Christians.
"Spread devotion to Mary Help of Christians, and you will see what miracles are."
Saint John Bosco (1815-1888).
Most Holy Virgin Mary, Help of Christians, how sweet it is to come to your feet imploring your perpetual help. If earthly mothers cease not to remember their children, how can you, the most loving of mothers forget me? Grant then to me, I implore you, your perpetual help in all my necessities, in every sorrow, and especially in all my temptations. I ask for your unceasing help for all who are now suffering. Help the weak, cure the sick, convert sinners. Grant through your intercessions many vocations to the religious life. Obtain for us, O Mary, Help of Christians, that having invoked you on earth we may love and eternally thank you in heaven.
Prayer of Entrusting the Church to Mary. Mother of God.
Pope John Paul II.
On the Anniversaries of the Ecumenical Councils of Constantinople and Ephesus.
O Mother of men and peoples, you know all their sufferings and hopes. You maternally feel all their struggles between good and evil, between the light and the darkness which shake the world. Receive our cry, directed in the Holy Spirit straight to your Heart and, with the love of the Mother and Handmaid of the Lord, embrace the individuals and peoples which most look for this embrace, together with the individuals and peoples to whose trust you attend in a particular way. Take thw entire human family under your maternal protection. With outflows of affection, O Mother, we wntrust it to you. May the time of peace and liberty approach for all, the time of truth, justice, and hope.
