What if we forget about the sacrifices people have made for us? What if we forget about all the martyrs who died so that we could have religious freedom? What if we forget about all the soldiers who fought and died so that we could enjoy political freedom? What uf we forget about grandparents and parents who have sacrificed their own comforts to make our lives better? The answer is obvious. If we forget the sacrifices others have made for us we would have little or no appreciation of what is important in our world. We woulf have no understanding of what made us and who we are.
At the Last Supper Jesus charges us to keep his memory alive. We must break bread and drink wine in his name. In celebrating the Eucharist we celebrate the memory of His Passion and Death. As we break bread and drink wine in his name we recall Jesus' opposition to religious sham, his commitment to forgiveness and inner healing, his determination to overcome sin, his promise to feed us, and his ultimate sacrifice.
When we remember the soldiers for our freedom we remember how important it is to fight against oppression and injustice. When we come together to share in Holy Communion, we remember that we are offered the Sustenance to step out of church and live Christ's memory in everything we do.
St. Juliana of Mount Cornillion (Belgian), a 12th century nun, spearheaded the effort to include a feast day for the Blessed Sacrament. She reportedlu had a vision of the Church as a pure full moon with one dark spot, which she interpreted as the omission of a feast for the sacrament Pope Urban IV (1261-1264) decreed the Feast of Corpus Christi in the mid-13th century.

CORPUS CHRISTI PROCESSION TO GARTH PARK
By tradition, Catholics take part in a procession through the streets of the neighbourhood near their parish following Mass to pray and sing. The Eucharist is placed in a monstrance and held aloft by a member of the clergy during the procession, on this occasion towards Garth Park, where Benediction will take place at the band stand. I invite all children who made their First Holy Communion and their families to participate in this Mass and procession on Sunday, 7th June at 11.00 a.m. All children should wear their First Holy CommunioN outfits and will lead the Blessed Sacrament Procession. Let us seek the Eucharistic Lord to bless Bicester and its surrounding villages and to help us to revive this lapsed tradition. Wardens are needed to guide along the route. Please contact the parish office if you can help. Please see the posters in the church porch for the route and order of the procession.
Pictures of past processions, this seems to have been an annual event, from the 1950s and 1960s can be found on the Archives Page via the button below.
