Epiphany

This week:

Reflection for the week

Epiphany

First Reading: The exiles returned from Babylon to find their beloved Jerisalem in ruins. The Prophet cheers them up with a vision of a restored city

Second Reading: St. Paul reveals the fact that God invites all, Jew and Gentile,to share on an equal footing the salvation won by Christ.

Gospel: This related how three strangers came for a far country to pay himage to the Christ-child while the Jewish leaders rejected him. The recognised Chist as the Saviour of the world. We believe that we have found the King, that is, Christ. But what difference does that make to us: in the meaning we find in life, the goals we persue, the way we treat our companions? What does Christ mean to me? To what extent is he the star that I follow?

Communion Reflection: It is not so much we who are searcing for God. It is God who is searching for us, as this lovely Psalm says: "O God, you searh meand know me. You know my resting and my rising. All my ways are open to you . . . O where can I go from your Spirit, or where can I flee from your face? If I climb the heavens, you are there. If Ilie in the grave, you are there. If I take the wings of the dawn and dwell at the sea's farthest end, even there your hand would lead me, your right hand would holf me fast. If I say, "Let the darkness hide me, and the light arounf me be night." Even darkness is not dark to you, and the night is as clear as day."

"It was you who created my being, knit me together in my mother's womb . . . Se that I follow not the wrong path, and lead me in the path of life eternal."

God bless you

Fr. John Y. Batthula, Parish Priest

Parish Handbook cover

PARISH HANDBOOK ON SALE A mine of useful information about the parish only £5.00 a copy available from the "Parish Information" display in the church porch or from the parish office..
CHURCH HEATING AND PRESBYTERY WINDOWS

PRESBYTERY WINDOWS Quotations to replace the presbytery windows that are in a dire condition have now been received. The cost will be in the region of £29,000.00

CHURCH HEATING As you are aware the church heating is neither efficient or cost effective. In order to preserve our church building and to feel more comfortable, we need to replace the existing under floor system which was originally installed 50 years ago with a modern, efficient system. To install gas central heating it would cost £47,000 inc. VAT, plus £4,789 inc. VAT for infrastructure works. £51,789 in total.

Now I am appealing to every family in the parish to contribute in a generous way, as is financially possible to you to help us meet the total costs. Donations can be made by cheque to ‘Parish of the Immaculate Conception’ or by Bank transfer. Please contact the parish office for details. Progress so far.

.

The windows of the Presbytery will be replaced during the week commencing the 3rd of January

However, we will be in desperate need of more cleaners to help clean the church in 2015. Currently teams clean once every 7 weeks for about 2-3 hours. Cleaning provides a good work out and is free, save money on expensive gym subscriptions! Please contact the parish office if you can help or need more details.
