  • Dear Parishioners

Everybody knows that if you plant an acorn in the ground and given time , it will grow into an oak tree. Yet nobody knows how. And how extraorinary that a huge oak should have such humble origins. Jesus says this is how it is with the reign of God in our lives and in our world. It begins in a small way, but, given time, it grows into something great. Is this growth happening in my life? Am I growing into a more loving, compassionate, Christ like person?

FIRST READING. (Ezekiel 17: 22-24). The prophet foretells the downfall of Jerusalem. At the same time he tells of a restoration that will be brought about by a member of the chosen people, the Messiah, who will set up a universal kingdom.

SECOND READING (2 Corinthians 5: 6-10) St. Paul says that his priority at all times is to please the Lord. Hence he has no fears of appearing before him.

GOSPEL (Mark 4: 26-34) This contains two parables: of the man sowing and of the mustard seed, about the slow but steady growth of the Kingdom of God from insignificant beginnings. It is God who brings about this growth.

"It is like a mustard seed which at the time of its sowing is the smallest of the seeds on earth; yet once it is sown it grows into the biggest shrub of them all and puts out big branches so that the birds of the air can shelter in its shade."

This morning I would like to extend a very special welcome to Bishop Robert who is coming to the parish for the first time since he was ordained as Bishop. Also, a very special welcome to the family members of Nick StJohn, Keith Millage and Tim Anthony, who will be receiving the Ministry of Acolyte during the 11.00 a.m. Mass. May God bless them as they prepare to be ordained as permanent deacons. Following the Mass there will be the usual tea and coffee accompanied by light finger food in The John Paul II Centre. All are welcome.

    Sympathy

We express our deepest sympathy and give the assurance of our prayers to the family of the late

    Francis Adamberry RIP

    Recently deceased.

A Funeral Service for Francis will be celebrated at 1.00 p.m. on Tuesday, 23rd June at Oxford Crematorium.

May the angels lead you into paradise, may the martyrs come to welcome you and take you into the holy city, the new and eternal Jerusalem. Amen.
