Amos 7: 12-15. Here we see how that great shepherd of justice, Amos, is faithful to the task that God has given him, even though he is rejected by those to whom he is sent.

Ephesians 1: 3-14. Thiis a hymn of thanksgiving to God for the spiritual gifts he has given us through Jesus Christ.

Mark 6: 7-13. The time has come for Jesus to involve the twelve Apostles in his own work. Accordingly, he sends them out in twos as his repasentatives. The Apostles were very ordrinary men. In no sense could they be called specialists. Yet Christ involved them in his own work of teaching and healing. Christ wants us to be part of his work too. Each of us is responsible for a small corner of the world where it is up to us to make the influence of Christ felt. Bur often we leave Christ's work for others to do.

Of course we need experts for specialised jobe. But the non-specialist too has a lot to contribute and often has a warmer heart. The sick, the lonely, the unloved stand not so much in need of medicine as companionship - someone who will listen to them. The old need someone who will spemd time with them. The young need someone who will show an interest in them. This is work that we all can do. It does not call for expertise - only a caring heart. In no sense could the Apostles be called experts. Yet we saw how Christ did not hesitate to involve them in his work.
