Let us pray. Father, you have taught the ministers of your Church to serve rather than to be served. May they persevere in prayer and be effective in their work, performing their ministry with gentleness and compassion. Profession of Faith. Will you now make the Profession of Faith and take the Oath of Fidelity which is requred of all those holding office and teaching responsibility in the Church? I beileve in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Churst, his only Son, our Lord. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He suffered unfer Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirirt, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen. With firm faith, I also believe everything contained in the Word of God, whether written or handed down in Tradition, which the Church, either by solemn judgement, or by the ordinary and universal Magisterium, sets forth to be believed as divinely revealed. I also firmly accept and hold each and everything definitely proposed by the Church regarding teaching on faith and morals. Moreover, I adhere with religuis submission of will and intellect tothe teachings which the Roman Pontiff or the College of Bishops enunciate when they exercise their authentic Magisterium, even if they do not intend to proclaim these teachings as a defintive act.
I, in assuming the office of Parish Priest promise that in my words and in my actions I shall always preserve comminion with the Catholic Church. With great care and fidelity I shall carry out the duties incumbent on me towards the Church, both universal and particular in which, according to the provisions of the law, I have been called to exercise my service. In fulfiing this charge entrusted to me in the name of the Church, I shall hold fast to the deposit of faith in its entirity; I shall faithfully hand it on and explain it, and I shall avoid any teachings contrary to it. I shall follow and foster the common discipline of the entire Church and I shall maintain the obervance of all ecclesiastical laws, especially those contained in the Code of Canon Law. With Christian obedience I shall follow what the Bishops, as authentic doctors and teachers of the faith, declare, or what they, as those who govern the Church, establish. I shall also faithfully assist the diocesan Bishop, so that the apostoloc activity, exercised in the name and mandate of the Church, may be carried in communion with the Church. So help me God, and these his holy Gospels which I touch with my hand.
Receive the keys of the Church. By your faithfulness to Christ and by the power of his word, guard your people from all harm and open to them the way to heaven. Will you loyally support your Parish Priest and assist him in all his endevours for your own good and that of others? With God's help, we will.
Take this Bible which enshrines the Word of God. Will you assiduously meditate on it, preach it to your people and use it for prayer in the daily office of the Church? With God's help, I will. Will you follow yoor Parish Priest in the reading of the Scriptures and attend to his teaching? Will you pray for your Parish Priest and join in prayer with him as the opportunity allows? With God's help we will. Will you share with your Parish Priest the mission of the Church to bring the Word of God to those who do not know it? With God's help we will.
Be the faithful minister of holy Baptism that the chilcren of your parish may be reborn in Christ. Will you instruct them and prepare them for Conformation and Holy Communion? With God's help, I will. Will you presnt your children for the Sacraments of Initiationand bring them up in the knowledge and love of Our Lord Jesus Christ? With God's help we will.
Receive the key of the tabernacle where Christ is present in the Blessed Sacrament. Will you celebrate Mass regularly and by word and example foster among your people devotion to the Holy Eucharist? With God's help. I will. Will you diligently come to Mass and with your Parish Priest offer yourselves and your lives to God through Jesus Christ? With God's help we will. Will you revence and adore Christ in the Blessed Sacrament? With God's help we will. May the Lord bless this parish and its new Parish Priest. May the Lord keep you faithful to all that you have undertaken and give you joy in his service. Amen.
