After the homily at Sunday Mass, the parents requesting Baptism are invited to stand. Celebrant: What do you want your child to become? Parents: A Christian. Celebrant: Why do you want your child to become a Christian? Parents: Because we believe in Christ. Celebrant: What do you gain by believing in Christ? Parents: Eternal life. Celebrant: Are you willing to do your part in the preparation for your child’s Baptism, with the support of our faith and love, and the help of your family and friends? Parents: We are. The priest invites a member (or members) of the Baptism Preparation Team to come forward. Celebrant: My dear friends, as members of our parish family are you willing to help and encourage these parents by explaining to them the mystery of Baptism and the responsibilities they are undertaking? Baptismal Preparation Team Representative(s): I am/We are. Celebrant: Parents, as a Christian community we share your joy and promise to support you and your child on the road to Baptism. Parents: Thanks be to God. Celebrant: We now invite you to join with our parish family in making the Profession of Faith. The priest invites the community to stand and the Profession of Faith is recited. |
