The photograph appeared in the Bicester Advertiser which also carried the following report of the occasion: Bicester Roman Catholics on Sunday held their annual Corpus Christi procession followed by an open-air service in The Garth Park.The procession formed up outside St. Mary's Church and moved along Chapel Street, Market Square, London Road and Launton Road to The Garth. The Monstrance, containing the Blessed Sacrament, was carried by the Rev. F. J.Downey, of Bicester. Children and nuns from the Convent of Jesus and Mary, Buckingham, St. Julian's Convent, Begbroke and Our Lady's Convent, Abingdon, and nuns from St. Joseph's Convent, Bicester, took part in the procession. Four members of the Catholic Young Men's Society acted as canopy bearers. Girls from St. Mary's School, Bicester, were flower-strewers. Visiting clergy included priests from Heythrop College and Begbroke Priory, who were accompanied by the Rev. Fr. T.Foynes, Bicester parish priest. The Haythrop College Choir, which led the singing of hymns, also sang a Latin motet in Market Square. The Sermon in The Garth was preached by the Rev. Fr. Benevot, S.J., and Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament was given from a open air altar which had been decorated with flowers. On return to St. Mary's Church Benediction was given by the Rev. Fr. Downey, assisted by the Rev. Fr. A.Rataj, a Polish chaplain, and the Rev. Fr. E.Cotter, of Souldern. Pictured above is the procession, headed by girls from St. Mary's School, arriving at The Garth.
